"Summertime, and the livin' is easy."
~Ben Quick, The Long Hot Summer (1958)
Strained relationships broil in the long, hot summer of this southern classic based on stories by William Faulkner. I couldn't help but think about this movie while temps and humidity soared in middle Tennessee during June and haven't let up much in July. Besides being a staple for every southern movie library, the movie is noteworthy, too, because it was the first teaming of Newman and Woodward. They married shortly after the completion of the movie.
