World famous and beloved Jack McConnell established himself as one of the top milliners in New York City, and he was from, you guessed it, Mooresville in middle Tennessee, just west of Lewisburg.
Captivating, alluring, bewitching and enchanting are the designs of vintage Hollywood, and Jack McConnell topped them all, from Joan Crawford to Lana Turner. His designs were the definition of glamorous and rightly earned him the title "King of Millinery."
If you collect vintage hats, you are familiar with this designer and know a red feather attached behind the label indicates that it is in fact one of Jack McConnell’s own original creations and one of a kind.

I collect Jack McConnell hats, and I would really like to know more about him. Does anybody know if he is still alive?

Sadly Mr. McConnell passed away a couple of years ago. The family is very private and doesn't give out much information. I spoke with a woman who interviewed him and she promised to send me more information for this post, but it never arrived.
I don't remember her name, but she works for the library at Martin Methodist college in Pulaski, TN. If I ever find out more, I'll be sure and do a follow up post.

Thanks for that information. I am very saddened to hear that he passed away. I was hoping to talk to him about my collection of his hats.
I photographed my collection and created a special photo album on my website for them. See http://brendagrantland.com/gallery.

The link above does not work because it included the period at the end of the sentence. Here is the correct URL: http://brendagrantland.com/gallery

These hats are examples of Jack McConnell hats. My friend Kathie has many, but I don't think she will part with any of them. They are prized possessions!
Good luck with your search,
Susan

My name is Allen Loos. I'm listing some of my foster mother's hats on Hatatorium Emporium. She and Jack McConnell were friends. You have one of my pictures posted here on your site, and I wanted to comment that that particular hat is probably my favorite one. I'm glad to see that you like it, too.
