Born in Nashville in November 1992, Miley spent her childhood on the 500 acre farm, enrolled in a public, county school Heritage Elementary, and regularly attended a Baptist church…pretty normal upbringing for a young lady who is the daughter of achey-breaky Billy Ray Cyrus. Success came early for Miley. At 8, she was given the role of Kylie on the TV show Doc starring her father. In 2003, she appeared in Tim Burton’s Big Fish as young Ruthie. But it wasn’t until Disney cast her as Miley Stewart in Hannah Montana did she get thrown into the world of bubblegum pop celebrity. She became an instant hit and a teen idol, and she was the first artist to have deals in TV, film, consumer products, and music within the Walt Disney Company.
In the summer of 2008, Miley came home to film the movie Hannah Montana the Movie. (More on that tomorrow.)Today Miley is struggling to break free of her teen idol image and transition into a more mature film actress and music artist. Hannah Montana is in its final season and Nicholas Spark’s screenplay The Last Song was written specifically to aid in the transition.
For all her time in the limelight, Miley is down-to-earth, raised by caring parents, baptized Christian, and I would place my bet that she makes the transition from teen to adult with as much angst and embarrassing faux pas as the rest of us, only hers gaffs will be in public view and subject to scrutiny. I would also place my bet that she will come out on the other side an equally as talented, humble and wildly successful artist in the next chapter of her life.
